December 19, 2009 - 2nd Alarm - 98 Fern Ave.
December 19, 2009 - 4:56pm - West Command - "C" Shift
Parkdale crews found a well advanced fire in a 2-storey brick residence with close exposures, and proceeded to enter the first floor, struggling through debris piled in every room, to knock down the visible flames. As overhaul commenced however, extension was found in the walls and upper floor. Gaining access to the void spaces proved a Herculean task as mounds of material had to be removed to the outside. Three lines and a lot of physical labour were required so that everything could be opened up, and it was hours before the fire was extinguished. Damage is set at $100,000.
