Heavy smoke enveloped this single storey brick deli restaurant in Leaside as crews arrived. Flames were emanating from the vents of a basement meat smoker and a pair of lines were advanced to begin knocking down the fire. The fire had spread into the walls and basement ceiling, and crews were pulled when the floor became spongy. The exterior attack held the fire to the rear area, but the blaze extended into the roof and left the building structually unsound. After the 90 minute battle, overhaul took well into the morning, and damage is at least $250,000 with the most likely cause being heat from the smoker.
