When downtown crews arrived at this oft-visited complex run by the Fred Victor Mission, they found a well developed fire venting from the top floor of a 9-storey brick residence and people hanging out the windows as heavy smoke filled the hallway and pushed into other apartments. As T333 was raised to provide exterior access, the pump and rescue crews fought their way into the blazing unit and also checked on and reassured terrified residents. Four tenants were rescued and three were sent to hospital with smoke inhalation. Careless smoking caused the $150,000 outbreak.
