Heavy smoke was pushing from this ground floor variety store when downtown stations were dispatched. A well established fire was burning in the rear storage area and reports were received of people trapped in a second floor apartment. Lines were deployed to the fire area and another to the second floor. Fortunately a fairly quick knockdown was achieved and extension to the upper floors of the 3-storey brick structure was minimal. Damage is $100,000.
