April 25, 2010 - 4th Alarm 100 Echo Point
April 25, 2010 - 9:51am - East Command - "B" Shift
Smoke and flames were visible from a penthouse apartment in this 25-storey highrise as P244 crew proceeded to the fire floor amid reports that three children were still trapped inside. There was no water in the standpipe system, so the crew waited for the riser to be charged by Pumper 244. Fortunately, arriving TFS members confirmed the children were already in the lobby. With water finally available, the crew attempted to knock down the fire but soon ran out of air and became disoriented in the smoke logged hallway. A mayday was called, and the RIT company went upstairs and retrieved them. They were transported downstairs where two of the crew were treated for smoke inhalation. The fire was controlled with considerable damage to the large suite; the $100,000 fire started in the kitchen when a pot of oil caught fire on the stove.
