August 14, 2010 - 3rd Alarm - 1517 O'Connor Dr.
August 14, 2010 - 8:02am - East Command - "A" Shift
A well involved basement greeted East Command companies as they pulled up to a large, single storey concrete block trophy shop. An interior attack was quickly stopped as the floor was spongy, and a collapse soon followed. Numerous large lines were set up outside and A222's ladder pipe was used through the front windows of the property, which covers two storefronts. Trophies were also made on the premises and crews faced numerous hazards. The roof was vented but flames did not break through, and thick walls and few openings in the long building allowed heat to build up inside, and clouds of smoke emanated for more than an hour. A great deal of overhaul was required with the basement destroyed and the rear portion of the ground floor gutted, resulting in a $600,000 loss. The cause is under investigation.
