October 30, 2010 - 2nd Alarm - 41 Kimbermount Rd.
October 30, 2010 - 12:05pm - East Command - "D" Shift
When Station 244 crews arrived at this large 1 & 2 storey brick backsplit, flames were torching out the front door and blowing from the basement windows, and they found a 22-year old man suffering severe burns outside saying there were two women trapped downstairs. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, and then transferred to Sunnybrook Burn Centre after being stabilized. Braving intense heat, firefighters managed to knock down much of the blaze and conduct a primary search. The two females were located but obviously beyond help. Additional crews contained the blaze on the ground floor and stopped extension upstairs and in the roof space using three lines. Damage to the dwelling is estimated to be $400,000. The fire apparently started in a mattress in a basement bedroom, possibly due to careless smoking.
