February 18, 2011 - 3rd Alarm - 1531 Bathurst St.
February 18, 2011 - 8:10pm - South Command - "A" Shift
During a violent wind storm, a metal eavestrough was pushed onto the supply lines to this 4-storey brick apartment building, causing a short circuit that first led to ignition of the roof area, then to a power outage in the local area. Crews dealt with the ensuing fire which had worked its way into several void spaces and were overhauling and checking on tenants in the darkened building when the power unexpectedly returned. This led to ignition deep in the roof space and a rapidly developing blaze. Crews on scene quickly began opening the area from above, in spite of high winds, and stretched lines up the aerials. Additional crews opened ceilings in apartments below, finding significant extension before extinguishment. A total of four lines were deployed and extensive overhaul resulted. Damage is in the $100,000 range. © GTMAA Trumpet
