February 3, 2011 - 1st Alarm - 1260 Broadview Ave.
February 3, 2011 - 9:02pm - South Command - "D" Shift
A couple across the street from this 2-storey brick rooming house noticed a fire on the upper floor and the husband ran over to alert tenants while the wife called 911. He quickly got everybody out, except for the occupant of the room of origin, where heavy smoke and heat beat back would be rescuers. Crews from 313 and 322 arrived and quickly dealt with the fire, removing the male victim in the process. Resuscitation efforts commenced and paramedics rushed the 45-year-old to hospital but he was pronounced dead, the victim of burns an smoke inhalation. Two other tenants were treated on scene; the $25,000 fire is likely due to combustibles being ignited by a heater. © GTMAA Trumpet
