November 24, 2011 - 5:15pm - West Command - "B" Shift
Two workers were performing basement repairs inside a trench alongside this 2 story townhouse complex facing Dixon Road. Just as darkness was falling around 5pm, the trench caved in, trapping both individuals. The first worker was quickly rescued but the second was stranded in dirt to his waist for over two hours. Crews shored and stabilized the area and eventually gained better access from the dwelling's basement by removing a number of concrete cinder blocks. A vacuum truck also assisted with the operation. Both patients were transported to hospital in care of EMS.
