October 14, 2011 - 2:50am - South Command - "D" Shift
Crews arrived to heavy fire coming from the rear of a dry cleaners on Bayview Ave., and quickly laid in several lines while a 2nd alarm was transmitted. The fire originated in the basement, and with dry cleaning chemicals burning, high heat conditions forced crews out. Firefighters kept up the attack from the front and the rear of the building and eventually gained the upper hand, but not before fire had extended into the flower shop on the north side, causing considerable damage there as well. Occupants living above the stores managed to escape safely.
